Five students from Mrs. Grassia's class presented their findings to staff members about the benefits of extra recess. The 4th graders researched the issue and gave a compelling argument citing a variety of health benefits. They found evidence that a longer recess time for children burned calories, aided in problem solving, produced positive energy, reduced stress and developed better social skills to name a few. They concluded that an extra 20 minutes of recess would be beneficial and an acceptable amount of time. Mrs. Grassia has already implemented this and has found positive results. Staff were impressed and said they would take their report under advisement.
